Andrew Benintende is a rising postgraduate year 4 (PGY 4) general surgery resident at Columbia University currently undertaking three years of NIH T32 supported basic science and translational research at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in regenerative engineering, transplant surgery and hepatology with specific focus on Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) and the Unfolded Protein Response (UPR). He is currently completing his Master of Science in Biotechnology at the Northwestern University McCormick School of Engineering. As a postdoctoral research fellow he is working on developing induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models of NASH, as well as other projects focused on modulating the UPR in in vitro and in vivo models. His career focus is on becoming a surgical-scientist with a NIH-funded, independent stem cell and regenerative engineering laboratory for transplant surgery and hepatology.
