Heidi L. Gartland started with University Hospitals as the director of government relations and child advocacy, directing legislative and health policy education activities for employees and crafting the newly formed Child Advocacy Department at its Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. In her current position as Vice-President, Government Relations, Ms. Gartland identifies the key legislative issues and trends impacting health care. She leads the system's Government Relations Department and is responsible for developing, implementing, and advancing University Hospital's legislative strategy at the local, state and federal levels for this fully integrated health system serving Ohio residents through its nine hospitals, 1200 member physician group practice, home health and workers compensation entities. Heidi was also recently appointed the President of UH CompCare a worker's comp managed care provider owned by University Hosptials. She also provides executive level communications to key leaders of the health system on issues impacting their business segments. University Hospitals is one of Ohio's top 10 largest employers with over 20,000 employees and physicians. Ms. Gartland has worked extensively in the area of government relations, community relations and health policy. Prior to joining University Hospitals, she was director of health policy at the Ohio Hospital Association. Prior to that she worked at the Akron Children's Hospital, Illinois Hospital Association, Rush Medical Center (Chicago Illinois) and the Ohio State University. She has extensive legislative and lobbying experience. Ms. Gartland also serves on several national boards including serving as the former Chair of the Government Relations Representatives of the Association of American Medical Colleges, the State Policy Committee of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and currently services on the following state boards: Ohio Children's Hospital Association, the Foundation for H
