John Franklin MD, MSc, MA is a Professor of Psychiatry, Transplant Surgery and Medical Education-Medical Humanities and Bioethics at the Feinberg School of Medicine (FSM). He was a recent past Interim Chair for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Other responsibilities include Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusion and Student Support. Dr. Franklin has been a medical education administrator and associate dean since 2002, playing major roles in student mentorship, student support, teaching and diversity and inclusion initiatives. He has a B.S. degree from Michigan State University, a M.D. from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology degree from Harvard University and a Master of Arts degree in medical humanities and bioethics from Northwestern University. His psychiatric residency training was received at Sinai Hospital of Detroit. For the past 30 years he has sub-specialized in addiction psychiatry, consultation/liaison hospital psychiatry and transplant psychiatry. He has been Director of the Consultation- Liaison service, Addiction Psychiatry Division Chief and the founding and current Addiction Psychiatry fellowship director. For the past 30 years he has been the transplant psychiatrist at the Kolver Transplant Center at Northwestern Medicine. He holds a Healthcare Executive Diversity and Inclusion Certificate from the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). He currently on the Board of Trustees of the Community Counseling Center of Chicago (C4) and longtime past consultant at Chicago Consulting Physicians, which performs psychiatric and medical disabilities examinations for the State of the Illinois.
