Luis Hidalgo

Dr. Hidalgo is the medical director of the UW Health Transplant Center HLA laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin and President-Elect for the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI). His interests in science began as a biochemist before turning to transplantation immunology. He remains fascinated by the immune response to allogeneic stimuli and has sought to understand the mechanisms by which a recipient's immune system rejects a donor organ. His research interests include immune effector mechanisms of antibody-mediated rejection, immunogenicity of HLA mismatches leading to the generation of HLA antibodies, and HLA antibody detection methods. Dr. Hidalgo is an active member in ASHI and the AST where he serves on the TxDx COP executive committee.
