Maria Fonseca Bauza BS

Maria Victoria Fonseca Bauza is a third-year medical student at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. She graduated with honors from UNC-CH in 2020, having completed her honors thesis in genetics and earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Currently, Maria is engaged in research with the Abdominal Transplant Department of Surgery at UNC, where she is investigating cardiovascular complications that may arise after kidney transplantation. Her work is motivated by her desire to address the medical needs of the Latino community. Additionally, Maria is a medical illustrator who is interested in using art to overcome language and literacy barriers in healthcare. Her ultimate goal is to pursue a career in surgery.
